Arcola was the home of Raggedy Ann and Andy inventor Johnny Gruelle as an infant.
One of your first towns you will pass through on your way to the Illinois Amish area will be Amazing Arcola. It is considered the "Gateway to Illinois Amish Country" and can be found on Interstate 57 at exit 203. Arcola offers many sights to see as you travel your way to the Amish Country.
Arcola is considered the broom corn capital of the world. Each year Arcola hold the Broom Corn Festival in their downtown drawing tens of thousands of visitors. Here you can see live entertainment, crafts, broom activities, food vendors, and a parade.
Arcola is also the birthplace of Johnny Gruelle, the creator of the Raggedy Anne and Andy line of dolls. Collectors from all of the United States and even the world visit Arcola each year for their Raggedy Anne Festival. Raggedy Anne crafts and collectibles line the streets and provide fun and entertainment for the whole family. If you can't make it for the Raggedy Anne and Andy Festival there is also a Raggedy Anne Museum located in downtown Arcola.
